Profit Potential
The profit potential in Screen Printing is high as the associated costs are relatively low.
For example, it has been estimated that to print a T-Shirt in a single colour, the cost of ink etc, used is less than 2 Pence (3 Cents).
Good quality T-Shirts can be purchased from as little as 90p (US$1.35). As a guidance, we would recommend that you charge £1.30 for one colour print (US$ 1.88) and 30p (45 cents) for additional
colours. It takes under a minute to print and dry a T-Shirt. An average order of 100 T-Shirts, printed in one colour, should, therefore produce profits of around £130.00 (US$195.00). The time taken to print a 100 T-Shirts, in one colour, should be less than 2 hours, giving you a profit figure of approximately £65.00 (IS£98.00) per hour. The cost of ink and Emulsion used is minimal.

In the UK, most screen printers tend to charge an average of £30.00 (US£45.00) to make up the initial
screen. The cost to purchase a new screen is around £18.00 (US$27.00 ) but the same
screen may be stripped down and reused for up to 20 different orders (providing it has been looked after). If one
screen can be used up to 20 times, that alone can produce additional revenue of £600.00 (US$900.00). Some screen printers also charge half of the above figure for repeat orders.
Multi-colour work also means more screens, which means more revenue!
The above is only an example, but you can charge whatever you like for making up a
screen. You may wish to offer discount on the initial screen of perhaps if more than one screen is required
(eg. For multi-colour work - the choice is yours.
The time taken to make up a screen is usually around 30 minutes - therefore, the above amount does take into account the time spent in making up a screen.
As a screen printer, you will also be able to make greater revenue by offering your
Artwork and Design Services.
